International Yoga Day 2023: Here's how educational institutions are celebrating in India

Banaras Hindu University, IIM Calcutta, Jamia Millia and many other universities and educational institutions are celebrating International Yoga Day 2023.
NEW DELHI: Every year, International Yoga Day is celebrated on June 21. The day is a global celebration of the ancient practice of yoga and its profound impact on our well-being. The theme for International Yoga Day 2023 is "Yoga for Vasudhaiva Kutumbakam."
Established by the United Nations, this special day seeks to promote awareness about the numerous physical, mental and spiritual benefits that come with practising yoga. People all around the world join with great enthusiasm to commemorate this occasion. The yoga day celebration in schools and educational institutions in India is an integral part. A wide range of programmes are being organized in schools and colleges to celebrate the day.
The Banaras Hindu University (BHU) is holding a series of free workshops to promote yoga from June 7. Today, BHU is conducting a mass yoga practice under the leadership of Vice-Chancellor Professor Sudhir Kumar Jain.

The Jawaharlal Nehru University (JNU) is celebrating International Yoga Day 2023 by organising a yoga practice event on the campus. It is a two day event which had programmes such as meditation, talk show, painting competition and more.

On the occasion of International Yoga Day 2023, Jamia Millia Islamia (JMI) organized a celebration at the NMAKP sports complex of the university. The event took place today starting at 7 AM. The chief guest for the event was Professor Najma Akhtar, the Vice-Chancellor of JMI.

The Indian Institute of Management (IIM) Calcutta celebrates the 9th International Day of Yoga 2023 at the university campus. Students and teachers gathered together to participate in event. Workshops, webinars, yoga practices were held in the event.

Today, International Yoga Day was also celebrated in madrassa schools across Uttar Pradesh. Earlier, the Uttar Pradesh Madrassa Education Board issued orders for all aided and non-aided recognized madrassas in the state to celebrate yoga day. The initiative aimed to mark the occasion of International Yoga Day and promote the practice of yoga among students and staff in madrassas.
Moreover, CBSE suggested earlier to conduct various activities in schools to encourage students and teachers to participate in International Yoga Day. These activities include organizing yoga workshops and seminars, mass yoga demonstrations, quiz competitions, and essay writing competitions with a yoga theme. Moreover, the board also asked schools for active participation in the Ministry of Ayush International Yoga Day competitions and include yoga day-related articles in their e-newsletters, bulletins, magazines and other publications.
