Jamia Hamdard organises three-day online training programme for nurses

NEW DELHI: The School of Nursing Sciences and Allied Health, Jamia Hamdard, and Heart Care Foundation of India (FCI) has started a three-day online training programme for nurses supported by Guru Gobind Singh Indraprastha University (GGSIPU). This nursing programme focuses on home-based nurse-led care for COVID-19 illness.

The three-day programme tries to enhance the skills and knowledge of nurses, make them confident with better communication skills. They would be able to take better timely decisions in the best interest of patients to save lives, especially in the home care environment. The course has been developed under the supervision of competent nursing and medical professionals.

Any registered nurse or final-year nursing student have registered for the programme at a nominal fee. There was an online assessment at the end of 24-hours of course completion for a duration of 80 minutes with two attempts. Successful candidates are issued a certificate of completion and are able to perform home-based care with confidence and efficiency.

Launch of the programme

The programme was launched by Professor Mahesh Verma, Vice-Chancellor, GGSIP University, and Professor Seyed Ehtesham Hasnain, Vice-Chancellor of Jamia Hamdard in the presence of Padma Shri K. K. Aggarwal, President HCFI; K. K. Kalra, Course Director; Manju Chhugani, Course Director and Dean; Amarjeet Kaur, Director University Centre for Disaster Management Studies, GGSIP University, and Anil, Director, HCFI, among others.

Addressing the students, K. K. Aggarwal, said that “Continuous education and training are the need of the hour for skill development and upgrading the knowledge of the healthcare workforce. Nursing staff constitutes more than one-third of manpower involved in healthcare service delivery and they are also those with whom patients interact the maximum. This makes it imperative for them to stay updated on recent developments in healthcare and this programme is an attempt to do just that.”

Views on three-day nursing programme

While, Seyed Ehtesham Hasnain, Vice Chancellor of Jamia Hamdard, shared that “Hospital acquired infections are main concern for patient safety and nurses have a major role in control and prevention. This course will give a lot of emphasis on these aspects and best practises and is an appreciable initiative by the nursing school, Jamia Hamdard.” This programe is the first of its kind which will aid the healthcare professionals to build uop their skills and knowledge for fighting against this deadly Coronavirus (COVID-19).

Adding further, Mahesh Verma, Vice Chancellor GGSIP University, said, “Outcomes of patient management are dependant on the quality of nursing care they receive. Besides providing care, a nurse is also an educator, communicator, counsellor and empathizer for ailing patients and their families. A caring, knowledgeable and skilled nurse enhances patient experience.”

Sharing his views about the programme the course director, K. K. Kalra said that with this course, nursing professional will be in a better position to play the role of caregivers, holistic care providers, decision-makers, communicators, counsellors, and patient advocates.
