NEW DELHI: The Supreme Court on March 30 allowed Joint Entrance Examination (JEE) Main 2022 candidates to submit representation before the National Testing Agency (NTA) and raise their grievances against reducing the number of sessions from 4 to 2 this year, as per Live Law.
JEE Main 2022: Registration for session 1 extended till April 5

A bench comprising Justices DY Chandrachud, Surya Kant and Bela Trivedi said that the Court cannot interfere with the policy decision of the authorities; however, the petitioners can raise their grievances before NTA.

The counsel for petitioners submitted in the top court that reducing the JEE Main 2022 sessions to 2 will make the exam more difficult.

"How do we now keep on interfering with any policy? They have not changed the eligibility, course content or syllabus. Where do you have vested right?", Justice Chandrachud said. “We will give you liberty to make a representation with regard to this,” he added, asking when the exams are.

The counsel replied, “first on April 1. Atleast 50% are board exams students.” The Court disposed of the plea while ordering that the contention of the petitioners is that reduction from 4 sessions to 2 sessions would cause hardship but since the matter pertains to policy decision, they will allow petitioners to submit a representation before the authorities for consideration.

Ever since the NTA announced that this year students will only get two chances and not four to appear for JEE Main 2022, engineering aspirants had been requesting the NTA to conduct 4 sessions.

On the request of students, NTA also removed 75% criteria from the minimum eligibility norms. However, for the JEE Mains Architecture and Planning course, candidates have to score a minimum of 50% marks in Physics, Chemistry, and Mathematics and also 50% marks in aggregate of the qualifying examination.

Moreover, as soon as the JEE Main 2022 exam date was released, students had been requesting to postpone the exam due to clash with board exams following which NTA had rescheduled the dates of session 1.
