NEW DELHI: Joint Entrance Examination Main (JEE Main 2024) is being held in two sessions 2024 this year - January and April. In JEE Main session 1, the January 31 exam was rated the “toughest” compared to all other shifts. The National Testing Agency (NTA) will conduct the JEE Main session 2 exams in April for candidates who opted for a second attempt and those applying afresh. Students are being allowed to appear twice in the IIT engineering entrance exam to reduce the number of droppers.
The JEE Main 2024 session 1 exam was held from January 24 to February 1. JEE Mains paper 2A and 2B for BArch and BPlanning was held on January 24 and BE, BTech paper 1 was held on January 27, 29, 30, 31 and February 1 in two shifts.

With just two months left, second-attempt candidates and fresh applicants seeking admission in Indian Institutes of Technology (IITs), National Institutes of Technology (NITs) and other premier institutes will be able to improve their score and focus on the important and high weightage topics by analyzing the JEE Main session 1 question paper.
JEE Main 2024 session 1 overall analysis
According to the students who appeared in the JEE Main session 1 exam, most of the questions were based on the NCERT Class 11 and 12 textbooks. More weightage was given to Class 12 chapters in all three subjects - mathematics, chemistry and physics.
Mathematics - This section was rated the toughest compared to the other two sections in all shifts of session 1. Weightage was given to coordinate geometry, calculus and algebra. As per Infinity Learn Sri Chaitanya Educational Institution analysis, January 31 shift 1 mathematics section was rated 2.4 difficulty level out of 3; highest among all shifts.
BTech paper 1 had two or three questions from integration, sequence and series, limit, differential equation, vector 3D, probability. Overall, the JEE Main maths section was lengthier and difficult.
Chemistry - Students found chemistry to be moderate to easy in difficulty level. Overall, the question paper had a mix of organic, inorganic and physical chemistry questions. However, most questions were theory-based and had direct questions from NCERT textbooks. The analysis rated 1.95 difficulty level out of 3 for January 31 shift 1 chemistry section.

Physics - This section was relatively easy compared to chemistry and mathematics. Questions were formula-based and the weightage of all chapters were approximately the same. However, the second shift question paper of January 30 and January 31 was found difficult in comparison to chemistry.
JEE Main 2024 score vs percentile
The NTA awards score and percentile based on students’ performance. The merit list is also prepared taking into account the percentile secured by each candidate. The marks obtained are transformed into a scale ranging from 100 to 0 for each session of examinees.
