NEW DELHI: The National Testing Agency (NTA) is expected to announce the exam schedule for the Joint Entrance Examination - Main (JEE Main 2025) soon on the official website, jeemain.nta.nic.in. As per the recent notice issued by the Goa board, the JEE Mains 2025 session 1 exam is expected to be conducted in the last week of January. The NTA JEE Main session 1 registration 2025, on the other hand, is expected to start on November 1, as per past trends.

The NTA will issue the comprehensive information bulletin for JEE Main 2025, which will also carry the official exam schedule. the bulletin will provide candidates with essential details, including the timeline of the exam, the registration process, eligibility criteria, and the application fee structure.
It will also provide important information regarding the documents required for registration, guidelines for filling out the application form, instructions for uploading photographs and signatures, and the payment process for the application fee.
As per the latest update, the NTA has removed the optional questions in section B of all subjects in the JEE Main 2025 papers. This change applies to both paper 1 for Bachelor of Engineering (BE) and Bachelor of Technology (BTech), as well as paper 2 for Bachelor of Architecture (BArch) and Bachelor of Planning (BPlanning).

The JEE Main exam will be conducted for admission to engineering and architecture programmes at National Institutes of Technology (NITs), Indian Institutes of Information Technology (IIITs), and various other government and private institutions. As per JEE 2025 exam pattern, each subject will have two sections. Section A will be of Multiple-Choice Questions (MCQs) and section B will contain questions whose answers are to be filled in as a numerical value. There will be no optional questions according to the JEE Main pattern change.
The total marks for JEE Main 2025 paper 1 is 300 marks. The JEE Main 2025 total marks for paper 2 is 400 marks.
JEE Main scores are valid for one year. This means candidates can use their JEE Main 2025 scores for admission at participating institutions in the academic year 2025-26.
In 2025, the NTA will follow the old pattern of JEE Mains where physics, chemistry and mathematics will have 25 questions each.
Careers360 spoke with Ramesh Batlish, managing partner and head of the FIITJEE Noida centre, to discuss the impact of the revised JEE Main exam pattern. Batlish said that the removal of optional questions in JEE Mains 2025 would likely result in a marginal drop of cut-off scores.

To be eligible for JEE Main 2025, candidates are required to have passed Class 12 in 2023, 2024 or 2025. While there is no minimum percentage required to sit for the exam, candidates are required to secure at least 75% marks in Class 12 to qualify for admission into IITs, NITs, or IIITs.

The number of questions in each section of the JEE Main exam paper is as follows.

MCQs: Four marks will be awarded for each correct answer. A negative marking of one mark for each wrong answer will be followed.
Questions with numerical value answers: Four marks for each correct answer and there will be a negative marking of one mark for each wrong answer.
It is expected that JEE Main exam syllabus will remain the same. The syllabus for JEE Main 2025 includes important topics of Physics, Chemistry, and Mathematics of NCERT Class 11 and 12.
The application fee can be paid online on JEE Mains official website. The payment fee will be accepted through credit card, debit card, net banking, and UPI. Candidates will be required to take a printout of the NTA JEE Mains 2025 for future reference.
The JEE Main 2025 registration date is expected to be in November 2024. The process will be conducted in online mode only. The application process for JEE Main will include registration, form filling, uploading of documents, and payment of fees
The JEE Main 2025 exam date will be announced tentatively in October 2024. The session 1 exam is expected to be held in the last week of January 2025, while session 2 will likely take place in the first week of April 2025.
As per the JEE Main new exam pattern, the authority has discontinued the optional question format in section B of the JEE Main exam. Section B in JEE Main 2025 papers 1 and 2 will now comprise of 5 mandatory questions.

Till now, NTA has not mandated any criteria for the age of candidates appearing for the JEE Main. Students of any age can appear in the exam, but only for three consecutive years from passing their class 12.
Candidates can apply for JEE (Main) 2024 session 1 and session 2 through the “Online” mode only. The application form in any other mode will not be accepted.

For JEE Main 2025, candidates must achieve a minimum of 75% marks in their Class 12 or equivalent examination. For JEE Advanced 2025, candidates should be among the top 20 percentile.
