NEW DELHI: The National Testing Agency (NTA) has commenced the JEE Main 2025 applications from today, October 28. Interested applicants can now apply for JEE Mains through its official website, jeemain.nta.nic.in.

The last date to apply for the JEE Mains 2025 is November 22 before 11:50 pm. As per the latest NTA notification, the JEE Mains 2025 exam will be held between January 22 to January 31, 2025.
NTA recently notified the changes in the JEE Main 2025 exam pattern and scribe guidelines for Persons with Disabilities (PwD) candidates on the new official website. JEE Main 2025 information bulletin will have other details including how to fill the application form, documents required for registration, application fee, eligibility criteria, detailed exam pattern, syllabus, marking scheme, and more.
JEE Main 2025 will be held in two phases. The exam will comprise two papers, paper 1 will be held for BE and BTech programmes and paper 2 for BArch and BPlanning programmes. The question paper will consist of multiple choice questions. Candidates will be awarded four marks for each correct answer while one mark will be deducted for every incorrect response.
JEE Main will be used for admission to the engineering and architecture programmes at the National Institutes of Technology (NITs), Indian Institutes of Information Technology (IIITs), and other institutions. It will also be used as an eligibility test for JEE Advanced 2025.

As per NTA, the age of candidates and their JEE Main 2025 application numbers will no longer play a role in determining ranks for students with the same scores. Rankings will now be exclusively based on the candidates' performance in the exam.
As per the age limit criteria, there is no age restriction for candidates appearing in JEE Main 2025. Candidates who have passed their Class 12 or equivalent examination in 2023, 2024, or are appearing in 2025 are eligible to take the JEE Main 2025 exam, regardless of age.
The IITs and NITs have been witnessing a drop in placement rates in mechanical, civil, and chemical engineering programmes, as per data in response to RTI queries. 40% of BTech mechanical students were yet to be placed till May this year. Even top branches such as CSE and ECE faced placement crunch this year.
Candidates must ensure that the e-mail address and mobile number provided in the online application must be correct.

The JEE Mains 2025 will not have any optional questions. The total marks of the paper will be 300.

Candidates can attempt JEE Main for a maximum of three consecutive years.
JEE Main will be used for admission to the engineering and architecture programmes at the National Institutes of Technology (NITs), Indian Institutes of Information Technology (IIITs), and other institutions. It will also be used as an eligibility test for JEE Advanced 2025.
Candidates will be able to download the JEE Main 2025 dmit card from the NTA website. Candidates will have to appear in the examination at the given centre on the date and shift/timing as indicated in their hall tickets.
The JEE Main 2025 admit cards will be issued three days before the commencement of exam.
As per the guidelines by National Testing Agency (NTA), candidates having disabilities will get scribe facility upon producing a certificate.
As per the guidelines, PwD and PwBD candidates will get an additional time of a minimum of one hour for the three-hour JEE Mains 2025 exam. Moreover, the word extra or additional time will be called compensatory time. The facility of a scribe will be granted on the production of relevant certificates.
The tie between candidates obtaining the same Total NTA scores will be resolved in the following manner:

Candidate with less proportion of a number of attempted incorrect answers and correct answers in all the subjects in the Test, followed by;

For JEE Main 2025, the number of domestic exam centers have been reduced from 300 in the previous year to 284.
In comparing the JEE Main exam cities for 2024 and 2025, a significant reduction in the number of exam centers can be observed. For the 2025 exam, there are 284 cities designated for Indian candidates and 14 for foreign candidates. This marks a decrease from the 2024 exam, which had 300 Indian cities and 24 foreign cities.
The National Testing Agency (NTA) has reduced the number of exam cities in Odisha for JEE Mains this year. As per NTA, number of exam cities in Odisha has reduced from 23 to 17.
JEE Main 2025 will be conducted in thirteen languages i.e. English, Hindi, Assamese, Bengali, Gujarati, Kannada Odia, Punjabi, Tamil, Telugu and Urdu.
JEE Main 2025 session 1 for paper 1 (BE / BTech) will be held between January 22 and January 31, 2025 and Session 2 will be held between 1 April and April 8, 2025 tentatively. "This is being done to ensure that the JEE (Main) - 2025 does not interfere with the Board examinations, which may be held at different times across the States/UTs. Paper 2A and Paper 2B (B. Arch and B. Planning) are also being held twice a year (January and April 2025)", NTA notification read.

The NTA has reduced the international exam centres for JEE Mains this year. Sri Lanka, Indonesia, Australia, Austria, Brazil, Canada, Hong Kong, Mauritius, Russia, South Africa, Thailand, Vietnam have been removed from international centres.

The exam conducting authority has revised the JEE Main 2025 exam pattern section B for paper 1 and 2. As per the updates, section A will contain 20 multiple choice questions (MCQs), while Section B will contain only 5 numerical value type questions per subject.
NTA has released a notice regarding the discontinuation of optional questions in section B of the JEE Main 2025 exam. As per the revised JEE Main exam pattern, all subjects of section B will consist of 5 questions.

The National Council of Educational Research and Training (NCERT) in collaboration with the Indian Institute of Technology Kanpur (IIT Kanpur) has launched a new initiative, the Self Assessment Test and Help for Entrance Exams (SATHEE) scheme, aimed at helping students prepare for competitive exams like JEE Mains 2025, NEET UG 2025, and government services (SSC) free of cost.
The number of questions in each section of the JEE Main 2025 exam paper is as follows.
Physics: 20 MCQs and 5 Numerical Value Questions

The National Testing Agency (NTA) is yet to announce the JEE Main 2025 eligibility criteria. Last year, the exam agency re-introduced the 75% criteria wherein students are required to score 75% marks in Class 12 in order to be eligible. 90% of the Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) Bombay students who opted for early exit last year were from the reserved categories including Scheduled Castes (SC), Scheduled Tribes (ST) and Other Backward Classes (OBC), as per the data provided by the institute in a response to the Right-to-Information (RTI) query.

According to the rules, such students will get an additional time of a minimum of one hour for the three-hour exam. NTA has revised the JEE Main 2025 exam pattern and discontinued the optional questions in Section B of each paper. Now, candidates will not get any choices in questions and will be required to attempt all five. The options were introduced during Covid pandemic to assist students and now that the Covid 19 has been declared not to be a public health emergency, NTA has scrapped the measure.
