National Testing Agency (NTA) conducted the JEE Main 2026 Session 2 April 6 morning shift exam from 9 am to 12 noon. As per initial student reactions and expert analysis, the overall difficulty level of the paper was moderate to difficult. Mathematics was considered the most challenging section, while Chemistry was doable and mostly based on NCERT and Physics was of moderate difficulty and calculation based.

The overall subject wise difficulty was;

Maths>Chemistry>Physics

The JEE main morning shift was relatively tougher than the morning shift of April 5 while as easier than that of the January shift.

The National Testing Agency (NTA) is set to conduct the afternoon shift of the exam today from 3 pm to 6 pm. According to the analysis of the morning shift, the difficulty level of subjects was ranked as Mathematics being the toughest, followed by Chemistry and then Physics.

The computer-based test, comprising both multiple-choice questions (MCQs) and numerical value-based questions, was conducted for a duration of three hours and carried a total of 300 marks.

JEE Main April 6 2026: Mathematics analysis

The Mathematics section was rated difficult and lengthy, making it the most difficult among all the three subjects. Students find that the questions were time-consuming, with higher weightage from topics such as;

Conic Sections: 5 questions
Vector Algebra & 3D Geometry: 3 questions
Integral Calculus: 2 questions
Matrices & Determinants: 1 question
Statistics: 1 question

JEE Main April 6 2026: Physics analysis

Physics was moderate as per student reactions but calculation-heavy, making it time-consuming for many students. Questions were asked from the below topics;

Current electricity: 2 questions
Modern physics: 2 questions (including 1 from binding energy)
Optics (refractive index): 1 question
Units and dimensions (error): 1 question
Electrostatics: 1 question
Rotational motion (torque): 1 question
Newton’s Laws of Motion (NLM): 1 question
Mechanical properties of solids: 1 question
Simple harmonic motion (SHM): 1 question

JEE Main April 6 2026: Chemistry analysis

Chemistry was moderate to slightly tough based on student opinions, with a mix of conceptual and calculation-based questions. While organic and inorganic chemistry were largely NCERT-based and direct, physical chemistry involved more numerical and time-consuming problems. Questions were asked from the following topics:

Biomolecules: 2 questions
Chemical kinetics: 1 question
Mole concept: 1 question
Periodic table: 1 question
Chemical bonding: 2 questions
Thermodynamics: 1 question
Equilibrium: 1 question
