NEW DELHI: The National Testing Agency (NTA) has updated the new Joint Entrance Examination (JEE) Main 2025 official website, jeemain.nta.nic.in, and notified the changes in JEE Mains 2025 exam pattern.

As per the revised JEE Main exam pattern 2025 , the exam authorities have decided to discontinue the optional questions in section B of each subject. Candidates will no longer be provided with the option to attempt any five questions out of 10 in the particular section in both papers and, instead, will be required to attempt all five.

Citing that the option to attempt five questions was implemented as a temporary measure during the Covid-19 pandemic to address the academic challenges, and now that the World Health Organization (WHO) has declared end of Covid as a public health emergency, NTA said the JEE Main 2025 exam structure would return to the original format. Candidates benefited from the optional questions from 2021 to 2024.

The detailed exam pattern of JEE Main 2025 will be available in the JEE Main 2025 information bulletin which is awaited. The information bulletin of JEE Mains 2025 will also mention exam date, registration dates, syllabus , eligibility criteria, marking scheme, and list of exam cities.

JEE Main 2025 exam date, registration

While notifying the JEE Main 2025 official website earlier, the testing agency had said that JEE Main 2025 registration will commence in ‘due course of time’. Based on last year’s trends, the JEE Main application form 2025 is expected to be out on November 1.

Last year, the JEE Main exam was held in two sessions – session 1 in January and session 2 in April. NTA uses the best score of candidates to prepare their JEE Main results.

The JEE Mains exam comprises two papers. Paper 1 is conducted for BE and BTech programmes while paper 2 is held for BArch and BPlanning courses. Students who qualify the exam are eligible for admission to the engineering and architecture programmes offered by the National Institutes of Technology (NITs), Indian Institutes of Information Technology (IIITs), and other institutions. It is also used as a prerequisite for JEE Advanced which is held for admission to the Indian Institutes of Technology (IITs).
