JEE Mains 2026: Top branches in NITs and their expected cut-offs for 2026 admission cycle

JEE Mains 2026: NIT BTech CSE top choice for engineering students; check expected, previous years' cut-offs.
The National Institute of Technology (NITs) will offer admission to engineering courses, for its various BTech programmes through the Joint Seat Allocation Authority (JoSAA) counselling on the basis of the Joint Entrance Exams (JEE Mains 2026) All India Ranks (AIR) and merit. Last year, NIT Jalandhar closed admission for its BTech CSE programme at 16325 rank in the final round. JEE Mains 2026 Answer Key LIVE.
The counselling authority will release the round-wise NIT cut-offs for BTech programmes after each round of JoSAA counselling separately.
As per past trends, BTech Computer Science and Engineering (CSE) remains one of the most sought-after branches at NITs. Candidates with a JEE Mains 2026 rank between 7,000 and 15,500 stand a chance of getting CSE, depending on the institute, category, and home state quota.

Apart from CSE, Electronics and Communication Engineering (ECE) is also highly popular, while core branches such as Mechanical, Electrical, and Civil have higher closing ranks and are comparatively less competitive.
The expected cut-offs in top NITs colleges for the CSE programme can range between 1100 and 5000.
Whereas, the closing rank for the ECE course at top NITs is expected between 3500 and 9000. For the Electrical and Electronics Engineering (EEE) branch, the expected range is somewhere between 5000 and 14000.
The National Testing Agency (NTA) will declare the JEE Mains 2026 session 2 results on April 20 for more than 11 lakh candidates for admission to engineering , architecture and planning courses. Of which only 2.5 lakh will be eligible for counselling sessions and JEE Advanced.
Previous years NIT Cut-offs for BTech CSE
The technology institute conducted six rounds of counselling in 2025 for admission to its BTech CSE programme, while there were only five rounds in 2024 for the engineering admissions.
