New Delhi, March 3, 2018: Jindal Global Law School (JGLS) faculty, Natasha Nayak and Avirup Bose have been awarded the prestigious Thomas Edison Innovation Fellowship 2018-19 from the Centre for the Protection of Intellectual Property (CPIP) at George Mason University School of Law, Virginia, USA. The JGLS is the only Asian Law School whose faculty have received the fellowship.
The fellowship awardees will undergo a year-long non-resident fellowship programme with groups of senior and junior global scholars to develop research papers on innovation and patent law and policy.
“Assistant Professors, Avirup Bose, and Natasha Nayak, the only representatives from Asia will attend a series of conferences over the one-year course where they will study and discuss a structured curriculum, engage in roundtable discussions with other scholars and industry representatives,” shared JGLS in a statement.
The official statement further added, “The discussions will share, examine and collaborate on new areas of research on the moral and economic value of patented innovation. The year-long fellowship programme culminates production of substantial academic research papers that are published in law journals or other peer-reviewed academic journals.”
Prof C Raj Kumar, JGU Founding Vice Chancellor and JGLS Dean said, “The Fellowship Award to the professors is a reinstatement of OP Jindal Global University’s leadership in initiating interdisciplinary and high-impact research in the area of innovation and law.”

Professor Natasha Nayak, a BA LLB (Hons) Graduate from West Bengal National University of Juridical Sciences (WBNUJS), and a Postgraduate Diploma in Economics for Competition law from King's College, London, also holds an LLM degree from George Washington University Law School. Professor Nayak’s research focuses on the emerging interface between IP and competition, especially in the pharmaceuticals and the ICT sectors. Professor Nayak is currently a visiting fellow at The Hoover Institution, Stanford University.
Professor Avirup Bose has also graduated from WBNUJS and holds a PG degree from Harvard Law School. Prof Bose had earlier become the first Indian to be recognized as a ‘Next Generation Antitrust Scholar’ in 2016. Professor Bose’s area of research concentrates on regulatory issues and innovation.
