NEW DELHI, MARCH 7: The Jawaharlal Institute of Postgraduate Medical Education and Research (JIPMER),Puducherry, has opened the application process for this year’s JIPMER MBBS entrance exam on March 7, 2018. The application form is available in online mode only and can be submitted till April 13, 2018.

JIPMER MBBS 2018 will be conducted on Sunday, June 3, 2018 as a Computer Based Test (CBT) in two shifts. The exam will offer admissions to 150 seats at the JIPMER Puducherry campus and 50 seats at the JIPMER Karaikal campus.

Including NEET and AIIMS MBBS, JIPMER MBBS is one of the three undergraduate medical entrance examinations held in India. More than 2,00,000 candidates are expected to apply for the prestigious national-level exam this year.

What's new in JIPMER MBBS 2018?

1. Negative marking has been introduced for the first time in JIPMER MBBS. One mark will be deducted for every incorrect response.

2. In accordance with the introduction of negative marking, the first tie-breaker step will be in favour of the candidate with lower negative responses. 

3. The eligibility criteria now requires unreserved candidates to clear Class 12 with an aggregate percentage of 60% across Physics, Chemistry and Biology instead of 50%. All reserved category candidates including differently abled candidates will have to obtain an aggregate score of 50% in these subjects.

4. The application fee of JIPMER MBBS has increased. For General and OBC candidates, it has been raised from INR 1,200 to INR 1,500 and for SC/ST, it has been increased from INR 1,000 to INR 1,200. For NRI candidates, the fee is now INR 3,000 from Rs. 2,500 last year.

5. JIPMER MBBS 2018 will be conducted in 120 exam cities, an increase from 75 last year.

 

About the Application Form

The JIPMER MBBS Application Form will require candidates to fulfill all the specified steps including initial registration, filling personal details, payment, submission of form and final printout. Candidates will also have to upload their passport size photo and signature, along with a community certificate if applicable, in the specified dimensions.

Candidates should have with them a valid identity proof, mobile number, Email ID, parents’ educational and income information before proceeding to fill the form as details pertaining to all of these will be required. General and OBC candidates will be required to pay an application fee of Rs. 1500, SC/ST candidates Rs. 1200 and NRI/OCI candidates Rs. 3000. Differently abled candidates are exempt from paying the application fee. The fee can be paid through Credit/Debit Card or Net Banking.

Unlike NEET and AIIMS, JIPMER does not provide any opportunity to correct the application form at a later date so candidates should be very careful while filling the information.

Who is eligible to fill the form?

  • Only those candidates who will complete 17 years of age by December 31, 2018, and are appearing for their Class 12 exam or have cleared the same with Physics, Chemistry, Biology and English as core subjects will be eligible to apply.

  • The minimum aggregate marks required in these subjects to be eligible for JIPMER MBBS admissions will be 50%.

About the Exam Pattern

  • The exam will be conducted in two shifts, morning and afternoon, with candidates being randomly allocated their shift.

  • A total of 200 Multiple Choice Questions – 60 each from Physics, Chemistry Biology and 10 each from English Language & Comprehension and Logical & Quantitative Reasoning - will be asked which candidates will have to answer within a two and a half hours.

  • Each question will carry four marks and there will be negative marking of one mark as well from this year onwards.

  • The medium of the exam will be English only.

The JIPMER MBBS Admit Card will be made available for download in the login accounts of candidates from May 21 to June 3. The result of the exam will be declared on June 9, 2018.
