NEW DELHI: The AJK Mass Communication Research Centre (AJKMCRC) in Jamia Millia Islamia (JMI) and the Bharti Institute of Public Policy (BIPP) at the Indian School of Business (ISB) launched their joint programme, MA in Development Communications, with a six-day workshop. Students of the programme will work in the forests of Malkangiri, Odisha, for field experience.

The collaboration between Jamia and ISB is aimed at working forest dwellers and local communities. It aims to “foster academic and knowledge collaboration” through “building a scalable and sustainable forest economy and livelihood, with a special emphasis on Community Forest Resource Rights (CFR) and women-led enterprises”, said the statement.

As per the report, the collaboration process began from the MA Development Communication 2023 cohort. The orientation programme of this course was conducted on May 15 at mir anees hall at JMI. According to the official statement, the collaboration will include academic and research cooperation in which students will gain access to “resources, including faculty expertise, cutting-edge research facilities, and industry partnerships” through which students will have “deeper understanding of the forest economy and develop effective communication strategies to engage with stakeholders at various levels”.

The programme will start with six-day workshop after which students will participate in field experience in which they will “engage in extensive research, documentary production, training, capacity building, and advocacy campaigns focused on forest rights and the economy” in Malkangiri forest. Students will gain the experience of working in forest opportunities like systems, interactions, outcomes, historical perspectives on forest rights in india. The faculty of the programme will join after one week of commencement of MA Development Communications.
