JNU congratulates alumnus Shaunak Sen for winning 'The Golden Eye' award at the Cannes Festival

Jawaharlal Nehru University drew criticism from various quarters for being silent on the victory of its alumnus at the Cannes Film Festival 2022.

NEW DELHI: The Jawaharlal Nehru University (JNU) congratulated alumnus Shaunak Sen who graduated from the School of Arts and Aesthetics (SAA) at JNU for winning "The Golden Eye" award at the Cannes Film Festival 2022 many dates after he won the award. There was criticism from various quarters for the silence from the side of the university.

Sen won the award for his documentary 'All That Breathes'. The film was produced by a JNU PhD scholar, Aman Mann, from the School of Arts and Aesthetics. JNU congratulated both Sen and Mann for their achievement in a tweet. "JNU is proud as Shaunak Sen, its alumnus, from the School of Arts & Aesthetics (SAA) won the prestigious “The Golden Eye” award at the Cannes Festival for his documentary, 'All That Breathes'. Aman Mann a PhD scholar at SAA is the producer of the film. Congratulations to both!," read the tweet from JNU.

Recently, JNU alumna Geetanjali Shree won the prestigious International Booker Prize for her Hindi novel 'Tomb of Sand', originally titled 'Ret Samadhi'. Shree's Hindi novel has become the first book in an Indian language to win the Booker Prize.
