Karnataka primary schools to reopen from October 21, says report

The Karnataka government had earlier said that a decision on primary school reopening will be taken after an expert committee meeting.
NEW DELHI: The Karnataka government has decided to reopen schools for primary classes from Thursday, October 21, as per a Timesnownews report. The government released an official notification wherein it said that the education department has agreed to conduct offline classes for primary school students, the report said.

With the reopening of the primary schools, almost all the classes will start being conducted physically. The schools for senior classes have already reopened, the report said.
While the government has allowed physical classes for primary school students, it has not made attendance compulsory yet, the report said. Those parents who don’t wish to send their children for offline classes can opt for online classes.

The government has asked schools to reopen for primary classes with strict COVID-19 protocols and safety measures such as thermal screening, social distancing, wearing of masks etc. Since these children are not vaccinated yet, extra precautions will be taken for their safety, the report said.
Recently, Karnataka Chief Minister Basavaraj Bommai has said that a decision on reopening of primary schools in the state for offline classes will be taken after an expert committee meeting.
School reopening
After speaking to reporters at Mangalore Airport, CM Bommai said that students and stakeholders can expect a decision soon after this meeting is held. The expert committee meeting on Karnataka primary school reopening meeting was supposed to be held after Dussehra.
Meanwhile, the Odisha government has also decided to reopen schools for Classes 8 and 11 from October 21 and 25, respectively.

The School and Mass Education department has issued Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) for reopening of schools for conducting physical classes. The government has already resumed offline classes for 9th and 12th with strict COVID-19 protocols.
The Goa government reopened schools for Classes 9 to 12 from today in a phased manner. Goa chief minister Pramod Sawant had informed about the decision on October 14.
