Kerala schools to get sanitary pad vending machine: CM Pinarayi Vijayan
The chief minister stated that the initiative has been taken to break taboos, foster health and empower girls.

NEW DELHI: The Kerala government has decided to install sanitary napkin vending machines in all schools across Kerela. As per, Kerala chief minister, Pinarayi Vijayan the project is aimed to break taboos, foster health and empower girls.
The chief minister also stated that the government recognises menstrual hygiene as a fundamental right of women.
Chief minister, Pinarayi Vijayan tweeted, "The State Government has decided to install sanitary napkin vending machines in all schools across Kerala, reaffirming menstrual hygiene is a fundamental right for girls. This project aims to break taboos, foster health, and empower our girls to soar with confidence!".

Earlier, the Kerala government decided to grant menstrual leave for female students studying in all state universities coming under the Department of Higher Education. The decision was first implemented by the Cochin University of Science and Technology and was followed up by other institutes.
The Kerala state government is also actively involved in promoting the use of menstrual cups. In the recent budget, the Finance Minister of the state, KN Balagopal, allocated a budget of Rs 10 crore to encourage and support the widespread use of menstrual cups.
