Madhya Pradesh: 5% MBBS, BDS seats reserved for government school students

NEW DELHI: As per new amendments in the Medical Education Admission Rules-2018, the Madhya Pradesh government has decided to reserve 5% seats of government school students for admission in MBBS, BDS course in government and private colleges.

The state government, in a notice also informs that 30% reservation has been fixed for women candidates in all courses in all colleges and 5% for physically challenged candidates in all courses in all colleges. In addition to this, a 3% quota will be given to freedom fighters and Army candidates that wish to take admission in MBBS and BDS.

The students studying in government schools from class 6 to 12 will get the benefits of the new amendments. The reservation rules will also be applicable to students will are studying in private schools from class 1 to 8 under the Right to Education Act (RTE) and take will be taking admission in government schools from class 9 and continue their studies till class 12.

However, for admission to the medical graduate course from the government school student category, it is mandatory for the candidate to present the original certificate issued by the district education officer or district coordinator or assistant commissioner of the relevant department.

"Admissions to medical colleges are done on the basis of NEET (National Eligibility cum Entrance Test) exam. We will give reservation to students of government schools, irrespective of caste, in medical studies,” said Madhya Pradesh, Chief Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan in February 2023.

He further added that government school children will have to be given protection, otherwise they will fall behind compared to those studying in private schools.
