Maharashtra Rain Alert: Schools closed, Mumbai University cancels July 2 exams in Palghar, Panvel

The University of Mumbai has cancelled all examinations scheduled for July 2 for colleges located in Palghar district and within the jurisdiction of the Panvel Municipal Corporation due to heavy rainfall. Official notice issued by Director, Board of Examinations and Evaluation, University of Mumbai on July 1, reads that all government and private colleges of Palghar district and Panvel city will be closed on July 2 due to heavy rainfall.

The notice reads, "All examinations scheduled for July 2, 2026, for colleges located in Palghar district and within the jurisdiction of the Panvel Municipal Corporation have been cancelled.The revised dates for these examinations will be announced on the official website of the University of Mumbai." Affected students must keep an eye on official website of the University for accurate information on revised date.

The decision comes amid heavy rainfall across several parts of Maharashtra following warnings from the India Meteorological Department (IMD), which has forecast heavy to very heavy rainfall in the region.

Maharashtra schools closed

Due to heavy rains in the state, Maharashtra schools have been closed in Palghar and selected talukas of Raigad. Following the India Meteorological Department's (IMD) warning of heavy to very heavy rainfall across parts of Maharashtra, authorities have declared a holiday for schools as a precautionary measure to ensure students' safety.

Several parts of the state have been witnessing persistent rainfall over the past few days. Citing the IMD forecast, the Disaster Management Act, 2005, and School Education Department guidelines, the Raigad district administration ordered holiday for secondary and higher secondary schools in the talukas of Alibag, Panvel, Uran, Shrivardhan, Mhasla, Tala and Poladpur. However, TN reports that the headmasters, teachers and non-teaching staff have been directed to remain available for disaster management duties as instructed by the local administration.

IMD predicts extremely heavy rainfall between July 1 and July 3 in Raigad and Palghar district. Residents have been advised to venture outdoors only if necessary and stay alert amid the adverse weather conditions.
