Running Rs 86 lakh deficit, MUHS allocates Rs 1 crore to Nashik Kumbh Mela in 2025 budget

NEW DELHI: In the 2025 budget of Rs 928.27 crore, the Maharashtra University of Health Sciences (MUHS) has allocated Rs 1 crore for Nashik Kumbh Mela scheduled to take place in 2027, while running a deficit of Rs 86 lakh. The university’s budget for the year 2025-2026 allocates Rs 10 crore for online screening assessments, Rs 2 crore for research, and Rs 50 lakh to train teachers and students.
The university budget 2025 has been divided into three categories: examination, development, and independent projects and schemes. According to the MUHS budget 2025 prepared by the vice-chancellor, various student welfare schemes have been developed by the university with the student as the central focus. A total of Rs 5.5 crore has been allocated in the budget for Dhanvantari Vidyadhan Yojana, Bhaishala Education, Savitribai Phule Scholarship for girls, Earn and Learn Scheme, and Student Accident Insurance Scheme.
A provision of Rs 20 lakh has been made in the budget for social awareness programmes, and Rs 25 lakh for the alumni association. University teachers and non-teaching staff who travel to other cities for university-related work will be provided financial assistance in case of accidents, natural deaths, or disability during travel.
The budget also includes provisions to strengthen the university's regional centers in Mumbai, Pune, Nagpur, Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar, Kolhapur, and Latur, with proposals for research and development activities.
MUHS Budget 2025: Research projects
A total of Rs 2 crore has been allocated in the budget for research projects, with Rs 1 crore allocated for travel expenses to encourage research. Furthermore, Rs 35 lakh has been set aside for research laboratories.
In her address, VC Madhuri Kanitkar mentioned that the university is conducting various initiatives for the students and faculty of all affiliated colleges. She also highlighted that special provisions for welfare schemes, social awareness programmes, and research initiatives have been included in the budget for students. She emphasized that the university is striving to encourage and support research activities.
According to the university's 2025-2026 budget, the expected total income is Rs 927.41 crore, while the total expenditure is expected to be Rs 928.27 crore, leading to a projected financial deficit of Rs 86 lakh.
