Manipur Violence: JNU asks students to cancel discussion on violent clashes in Manipur

NEW DELHI: Jawaharlal Nehru University issued an advisory notice on Thursday evening cautioning students against holding discussions on the recent violent clashes in Manipur. The notice stated that a group of students have issued a pamphlet under the name COLLECTIVE. As per the notice, the pamphlet informs that the student discussion will take place at 9:30 pm today, May 18 at ganga dhaba on the university campus.

The University registrar stated that COLLECTIVE had not acquired permission from the JNU administration for holding student discussions on Manipur violence. Further, the registrar also stated that holding such discussions will lead to disruption of peace and harmony in the university campus. Based on this, JNU administration has advised the concerned student groups to not hold student discussion on the ongoing situation in Manipur.

In other news, JNU students from affected communities in Manipur, Kuki and Meitei, organised a donation drive to help the displaced people of Manipur due to the recent ethnic violent clashes. Under the banner of the North East Students' Forum (NESF) of JNU, the students set up donation boxes across the campus and sent the collected money to people running relief camps.

The violent clashes in Manipur affected students from numerous states as many students had to be brought back to home state . Further, Manipur students’ UPSC prelims exams have been affected and siblings from Delhi were caught in the clash which led to them missing their IIT JEE exam 2023 .
