Students of Maulana Azad National Urdu University (MANUU), Hyderabad, have called off their 18-day-long indefinite protest after a university committee assured them in writing that their concerns would be addressed by the first week of February 2027.

The decision to end the protest was announced on November 7 following discussions with the university committee. The students had been protesting over concerns regarding the recognition of Bachelor of Vocation (BVoc) and Master of Vocation (MVoc) qualifications in allied and healthcare sciences under the National Commission for Allied and Healthcare Professions (NCAHP) framework .

The students said the committee had agreed to consider their demands and committed to resolving the matter within a fixed timeline. However, they confirmed that withdrawing the protest did not mean giving up their demands. MANUU students said they would continue to pursue the matter until the university fulfils its commitment and addresses their demands.

Why were MANUU students protesting

The agitation mainly revolved around concerns that the existing BVoc and MVoc degree titles and their status under NCAHP regulations could affect graduates' professional registration, employment opportunities and eligibility for higher education .

The students had demanded recognition of their BVoc and MVoc qualifications under the NCAHP framework. They had also requested a change in the nomenclature of the degrees to Bachelor of Science (BSc) and Master of Science (MSc), respectively.

Around 600 students, including current learners and graduates, were associated with the protest. The demonstrators had asked for intervention from the university administration to resolve the concerns affecting their academic and professional scope.

MANUU earlier formed committee for students' concerns

Earlier, on October 26, MANUU had formed a committee to look into the concerns raised by BVoc and MVoc students regarding their eligibility for registration with the NCAHP after completing their courses. The decision followed a representation that was submitted by the MANUU Students' Union to the vice-chancellor.

The vice-chancellor also held a meeting with student union representatives, deans and directors to discuss the matter. The committee, constituted of university deans and officials, held its first meeting and was asked to submit its findings to the vice-chancellor. The university said it remained committed to addressing the students' concerns.

Following the written assurance by the university, the students said that they were withdrawing their indefinite protest. They also acknowledged the support extended by fellow MANUU students , the MANUU Students Union (MSU), media organisations and others during the campaign.
