MCI grants one-time exemption to non-NEET registered candidates to pursue MBBS abroad

NEW DELHI, SEPTEMBER 14: The Medical Council of India (MCI) has decided to give one-time exemption to candidates who have not registered for the National Eligibility cum Entrance Test (NEET), to take admission in MBBS programmes in medical institutes outside India.

Such candidates will be granted admission to foreign medical colleges after the fulfillment of certain conditions set by the Council.

One-time exemption to non-NEET registered aspirants
The MCI has issued a public notice allowing one-time exemption from NEET to the Indian Citizens who have not at all registered for NEET, but also desires to take admission to MBBS course from an institute outside India, provided the candidate should furnish the following conditions:

• Aspirants must provide an undertaking that they have not registered/appeared for NEET 2018
• Candidates should also obtain an Eligibility Certificate from the council before admission/joining the foreign medical institute

Also, the council must verify from CBSE whether such undertaking submitted by aspirants is genuine or not. In case the undertaking will be found to be fake, an action will be taken against the candidate including cancellation of candidature.
NEET has become the main and basic eligibility criteria for admission to medical courses offered by institutes outside India, while the result will be deemed treated as the eligibility certificate. And the only candidate who has qualified National Eligibility cum Entrance Test by securing the minimum percentile will be allowed to pursue MBBS from any foreign medical institute.

Earlier, Delhi High Court on February 26, 2018, has allowed candidates belonging to UR category aged above 25 years to fill the application form of NEET and appear for the same.

The student intake for many overseas colleges will get over in September and this may be the final chance for MBBS aspirants to apply for admission.

“We have over 50 pending applications of students with excellent academic backgrounds but who did not appear for NEET exam this year. Many Indian students will be happy to learn about this positive development, “said Sivakumar, admission officer at Texila American University.
