Medhavi Skill University, Counsel India collaborate to foster skill development opportunities

NEW DELHI: Medhavi Skill University and Counsel India launched Pragati 2024, a collaborative effort with an aim to shape the future of skill development. With the launch of the model, their collaboration with industry giants such as Aditya Birla, Apollo, ITC, Crown Plaza, TATA, and more has been crucial, MSU co-founder said.

The National Skills Development Corporation (NSDC) CEO Ved Mani Tiwari, in his virtual keynote address, underscored “the need for education to align with the dynamic changes in workplaces”, as specified in the National Education Policy (NEP 2020).

CEO of Counsel India Shivam Dixit said, with the effort of 350 members for seven years, they have created a community of 150,000 learners worldwide, “transforming their vision into reality through practical knowledge”.

“Beyond education, this collaboration extends to creating robust employment and career opportunities for the youth. The co-created programmes are designed to meet the evolving demands of the job market, emphasizing career counselling, organizational psychology, and specialized therapy”, Bobby Thakur, the founder of Counsel India, said.

NSDC CEO talked about the crucial role of counsellors in guiding students to recognize and refine their skills for both local and global opportunities.

Devender K Saini, the chief strategic advisor of Counsel India, said that the survey conducted by the Indian Psychiatry Society revealed a 20% increase in poor mental health since the onset of the COVID-19 pandemic. The World Health Organization estimates India’s economic loss due to mental health disorders at 1.03 trillion US dollars, he pointed out.

He emphasized that “India needs about 15 lakh counsellors for schools and over 50 lakh counsellors to address mental health issues. We have 1 psychologist and 3 counsellors per 1 lakh population”. There is also a need for widespread advocacy efforts to destigmatize mental health. Creating accessible online platforms, teletherapy services, and innovative tools will help in democratizing mental health support, he added.

Many eminent guests including the NSDC CEO Ved Mani Tiwari; special commissioner of police, Robin Hibu; Medhavi Skills University, chancellor, Pravesh Dudani; and Medhavi Skills University, pro-chancellor, Kuldip Sharma, were present at the event hosted jointly by Counsel India and MSU.
