MHRD calls meeting to appoint Principals in 21 DU colleges

NEW DELHI, JUNE 1: With as many as 21 Colleges affiliated to the University of Delhi (DU) running headless for years, the Union Ministry of Human Resource Development (MHRD) has finally set in motion the process to appoint full-time Principals.

The Ministry has called for a meeting of Chairpersons of the Governing body of these colleges on June 5 to expedite the process.

Hindu College, Kirorimal College, Kamla Nehru College are some of the colleges where the post of Principal is lying vacant for several years. The admission season has also begun at the university for nearly 56,000 undergraduate seats.

Earlier in 2016, the University initiated process for appointing principals, however, it was halted due to transition process beginning at the top level in the varsity. The then Vice-Chancellor Prof Dinesh Singh was to retire within three months and new VC was to take charge.

On the other hand, Delhi University teachers have been up in arm against the varsity administration over various regulations being brought in by the University Grants Commission. The teachers have also boycotted evaluation process.

A section teachers have launched Satyagraha to draw the attention of MHRD over issues of absorption of ad-hoc teachers, promotion, pension and the issue of roster along with autonomy of colleges.
