NEW DELHI, JULY 6: Prof. Goverdhan Mehta, former director of Indian Institute of Science, Bangalore today formally launched the MHRD ‘s National Resource Centre of Chemistry (NRCC) at the SGTB Khalsa College’s Guru Angad Dev Teaching Learning Centre of MHRD.
Also present on the occasion were Prof. Ved Prakash, former Chairman UGC; Prof A K Bakhshi, Chairman NRCC and VC, PDM University; Dr. Vimal Rarh Coordinator NRCC and Dr. Jaswinder Singh, Principal SGTB Khalsa College.
The mandate of this NRC is to conduct annual online refresher program using MOOCs uploaded on SWAYAM portal for all the higher education chemistry teachers of the country. NRCC is one of the 75 NRCs notified by the MHRD in May 2018 for imparting annual training to the higher education faculty of the country in 75 disciplines.
Speaking on the occasion Prof. Mehta in his keynote address said that chemistry is an amazing science involved in each and every facet of life.
He said Chemistry ingenuity should factor in the intrinsic interconnections between human, animal, environmental and societal systems. Prof Mehta is the leading chemist of the country.
Prof. Ved Prakash in his address said emphasis should be on raising the quality in higher education. He emphasized the need of good coordination between school education and higher education.
Prof A K Bakhshi said that it is a great initiative on the part of MHRD. This NRC will focus on preparing Modern Age Teachers to meet the challenges of the 21 st century, he said.
