Mumbai kid wins 17th National UCMAS Abacus & Mental Arithmetic Competition 2018

NEW DELHI, SEPTEMBER 7: Eight- year-old Ananya Desale, Shahapur from Holy Cross Convent School won ‘Champion’ trophy along with cash prize worth Rs. 5, 000/- at 17th at National UCMAS Abacus & Mental Arithmetic Competition 2018.
Aarush Gupta (10 yrs), Pet Oxford, Ulhasnagar has been awarded for Group Champion and Mhd. Farhan Ansari (07 Yrs) from St Teresa High School, Bandra has won as the second runner-up in C- category.
In the competition around 6000 students across India between the age group of 4-14 years had participated and more than 315 students from Mumbai participated at the competition out of which 42 students won the competition.
The competition was held in two parts one of which where students had to solve 200 mathematics questions in eight minutes depending on the students’ level, using only an abacus or mental arithmetic and the other part was to solve the sums flashing on the screen within seconds.
Ananya Desale secured highest marks in both the parts of the competition and was adjudged for TOP RANK at the competition. Ananya is in 4th standard at Holy Cross School, Kalyan and is originally from a truly inaccessible hamlet from Shahapur Taluka. Both her parents are teachers and she has been inspired by them
Chandrakant Mishra and Mira Mishra, Director of CBS Education Pvt. Ltd and her teacher Varsha Chavan had guided her during her preparation. She is being congratulated at all levels from her Taluka.
While speaking about the competition, Chandrakant Mishra, Director of CBS Education said, “It is a very proud moment for us, our main objective behind organizing this competition is to find abacus genius and to develop a healthy competitive spirit among the children while giving them an opportunity and platform to showcase their talent.”
Universal Concept Mental Arithmetic System (UCMAS) is an international educational organization globally recognized as a leader in whole brain development and mental arithmetic training, which runs all over India and abroad. It trains children of 4-14 years in arithmetic and enhances skills like concentration, creativity, listening and photographic memory.
