Nearly 6,000 teaching posts vacant in KVs: MHRD

New Delhi: Nearly 6,000 teaching positions are vacant in Kendriya Vidyalayas (KVs), public schools administered directly by the Central Government, all over the country, Union Minister of Human Resource Development, Ramesh Pokhriyal ‘Nishank’ informed Parliament on December 2.

There are 5,949 teaching posts lying vacant against 48,236 sanctioned posts in different Kendriya Vidyalayas but, according to MHRD , this has not harmed learning.

‘Learning process not hampered’

The minister said that steps are taken to ensure that the vacancies do not affect the learning.

“Teachers are engaged on a contractual basis for temporary duration by Kendriya Vidyalaya Sangathan to ensure that the teaching-learning process is not hampered,” ‘Nishank’ added. The Kendriya Vidyalaya Sangathan is in charge of the functioning of the KVs.

Big states are the worst performers when it comes to filling up vacancies in KVs with Uttar Pradesh leading the state-wise list with 557 vacancies out of 5,711 sanctioned posts. It is followed by Madhya Pradesh with 526 vacancies out of 3,994 posts and Assam with 367 vacancies in 2,117 posts.

The least number of vacancies are in Union Territories. In the smallest ones – also with the fewest KV schools, they are in single digits. Daman & Diu has the least vacancies with four followed by Dadara & Nagar Haveli with five and Lakshadweep with six.
