NEET 2021 score may be used in nursing courses: NTA notification

NEW DELHI: The National Testing Agency (NTA) has announced that the NEET 2021 exam will be held on August 1. As per the notice released by the NTA, in addition to MBBS, BDS, AYUSH and veterinary seats, the scores of NEET 2021 may be used for nursing admission. NEET-UG is the single largest medical entrance exam conducted in the country.

The NTA after much delay released the NEET 2021 notification on March 12 at nta.ac.in . The NTA notice stated that NEET UG 2021 will be conducted in a pen and paper-based mode on August 1. Further, the notice clarified, NEET exam 2021 will be held only once a year . The NEET 2021 application form date along with the official brochure will be released soon.

Nursing admissions through NEET

The NEET 2021 score is used for admission to 82,950 MBBS, 26,949 BDS, 52,720 AYUSH, and 525 BVSc and AH seats. Expanding the scope of the NEET exam, NTA in its notification said that NEET result 2021 may be used for nursing admission in the country.

The official notification states, “The Result of NEET (UG) - 2021 may be utilized by other Entities of Central/State Governments (including Indian Nursing Council/ Nursing Colleges/ Schools, JIPMER) for counselling/ admission to relevant courses [including BSc Nursing and BSc Life Sciences] in accordance with their rules/ norms/ guidelines.”

However, the NTA has not clarified if admission to nursing courses will be granted entirely on the basis of the NEET exam score from now onwards. The official statement by the NTA suggests that NEET may be used by concerned authorities for nursing admissions. A clarification on nursing admission through NEET exam is expected in the official NEET 2021 brochure.

NEET 2021 scope

NEET is the single entrance exam for admission to MBBS, BDS, BAMS, BSMS, BUMS, BHMS, BVSc and AH courses. NEET result is also considered for admission to 1,899 AIIMS and 249 JIPMER seats.
