Sharp dip in NEET cut-off for MBBS in Tamil Nadu government medical colleges

Try NowNEW DELHI: Tamil Nadu has the highest number of 5,275 MBBS seats in government medical colleges in India. However, there has been a staunch resistance against the National Eligibility-cum-Entrance Test - undergraduate (NEET UG), the single largest medical entrance exam, for admission into MBBS, BDS and allied courses.
Tamil Nadu has a total of 38 government medical colleges , 36 private medical colleges offering 5,275 and 6,375 MBBS seats respectively, according to data shared by the Union ministry of health in the Lok Sabha last year.
Despite the growing opposition to NEET, the state saw an increase in the number of registrations in the last 3 years. Tamil Nadu is also one among the three states which got the highest number of 53,816 claims settled in 2024-25 under the PM Uchchatar Shiksha Protsahan Central Sector Interest Subsidy (PM-USP CSIS). The scheme was launched to provide financial support to students with Rs. 4.5 lakh annual family income to pursue professional courses in India.
This year, the National Testing Agency (NTA) will conduct the NEET 2025 exam on May 4 for around 23 lakh students. The exam will be held in pen-paper format and will not have any optional questions.

NEET cut-offs for MBBS in Tamil Nadu government medical colleges
To get admission in government medical colleges located in Tamil Nadu, one has to qualify the NEET 2025 exam and obtain a rank and minimum prescribed cut-off. The NEET cut-off for government medical colleges depends on various factors including number of seats available, NEET rank, NEET score, difficulty level of exam, number of students appeared in the exam.
The Medical Counselling Committee (MCC) conducts four rounds of NEET UG counselling for 15% All India Quota (AIQ) seats. Last year’s category-wise NEET cut-offs for MBBS admission in Tamil Nadu government medical colleges are given below.

Madras Medical College continues to be the popular choice among MBBS aspirants who aim to pursue medical courses in Tamil Nadu. This is followed by Stanley Medical College, Government Medical College, Omandurar, and Coimbatore Medical College.
