NEET PG 2022: Kerala candidates urge state CM, health minister, NBEMS to change exam centres

NEW DELHI: Concerned over far-off exam centres in the National Eligibility Entrance Test (NEET) PG 2022 for candidates from Kerala, the General Practitioners Association, Kerala has written to state chief minister Pinarayi Vijayan and health minister Veena George along with National Board of Examinations (NBEMS) to allow the candidates change exam centres or allot them centres near their hometown. NEET PG 2022 is scheduled to be held on May 21.

“It would be very helpful if the candidates who opted “others” for examination centre while submitting the online application are allowed to change their centre or allotted a centre near to their hometown,” the doctors association said in separate letters to CM and health minister.

With just five days left until the NEET PG 2022 exam, the doctors association pointed out to the “crucial” situation and explained that the problem arises due to lack of examination centres in each district which forces candidates to opt for “others” option. “Every year this same irrational situation comes up that the examination centres in each district gets filled very fast within hours of notification of the online application due to insufficient number of centres in each district, hence lots of candidates are unable to choose their desired district,” it argued.

According to the doctors’ body, earlier the candidates were told that those who are not able to pick examination centres of their desired choice will be allocated a centre near to their hometown by choosing the option “others” but on the contrary many candidates are provided exam centres in other states like Andhra Pradesh, Telangana etc., which will add to their difficulties.

“In these difficult times it is inconvenient for the candidates to book train or flight tickets, travel to a distant place few days before and having to stay there will add to their financial difficulties. Candidates are forced to face all these struggles unnecessarily every year and that too just one week before the exam because the admit cards are issued hardly one week before the stipulated exam date every year,” the letter read.

Further explaining their issues, the General Practitioners Association said that many candidates are engaged in clinical practice making it difficult for them to get a long duration of leave on such a short notice.

The Supreme Court on Friday dismissed the plea seeking postponement of NEET PG 2022 observing that postponing the medical entrance exam will create “chaos and uncertainty”.
