NEET PG 2023: Supreme Court to hear NEET PG exam date postponement plea tomorrow

NEW DELHI: Supreme Court will hear the plea on the National Eligibility cum Entrance Test Postgraduate (NEET PG 2023) postponement on Monday, February 27. Earlier on February 24, the Supreme court adjourned the hearing instructing NBE to provide certain information and propose a solution. The bench categorically stated that it is not passing any order either way and keeping the issue open until the next hearing date.

The NEET PG 2023 exam is scheduled to be held on March 5. Doctors' bodies such as FAIMA and FORDA and medical aspirants want the exam to be postponed as there will be a huge gap between the exam date and counselling. Postponing the exam would be a relief for medical aspirants.

Advocate Gopal Sankaranarayanan representing the petitioners said: "There are 13 petitioners before your lordships...But about 45,000 others would be affected. They have registered....When you go for counselling you have to show the completion of internship. So, counselling can happen only after August 11."

"The gap between the exam and the counselling in 5 months now. Previously, it was one month. As a consequence we are getting less time... We are asking the exam to be pushed a little. It was pushed last year," he added.

"From a macro-perspective it (postponement) seems very easy. But it is not like that. Those who have been preparing for months together were told that they wait for months. We are also aware when we postpone..the agony of candidates who have prepared...the whole dynamics changes," Justice S Ravindra Bhat said during the hearing.

The bench has referred the matter to Additional Solicitor General Aishwarya Bhat to appear on behalf of NBE. More than 2 lakh candidates have applied for the NEET PG 2023 examination. The NEET PG 2023 postponement petition will be heard again by the bench tomorrow.
