Use NowAs uncertainty over the NEET PG 2025 counselling schedule continues, the Federation of Resident Doctors’ Association India (FORDA) has urged the Union ministry of health and family welfare to intervene and expedite the admission process, highlighting the impact of the delay on hospitals due to the shortage of resident doctors. “Nearly two months after the results were declared (August 19, 2025), the seat matrix remains incomplete with no concrete timeline for counselling commencement,” the FORDA wrote in the letter addressed to the health ministry.
Hospitals across India are currently operating with only two resident batches, “placing unsustainable pressure on the healthcare workforce and compromising patient care delivery”, it said.
In the Indian healthcare system, resident doctors manage the emergency and outpatient department, and work in the operating room while simultaneously pursuing their postgraduate medical training.
“Thousands of qualified doctors await postgraduate training while the 2025-26 academic session faces jeopardy. This systemic delay undermines both medical education and healthcare delivery nationwide,” the statement read.
FORDA urges NMC, MCC to expedite NEET PG process
Nearly two months after the NEET PG 2025 exam and results, there is still no clarity over the counselling process for All India Quota (AIQ) and state quota seats, leaving nearly 1.28 lakh qualified candidates in limbo.
Doctor groups have blamed the National Medical Commission (NMC) for delay in approving postgraduate seats and the pending Supreme Court decision on exam transparency as reasons for further delay in the admission process.
The resident doctors association requested the NMC and the MCC to immediately intervene to expedite the NEET PG 2025 counselling process.
Doctors demand transparent updates on SC hearing
They put forward four major requests, which includes release of the finalised seat matrix and round 1 counselling schedule.
It also demanded for transparent updates on the Supreme Court proceedings scheduled on October 28. During the last hearing, the court gave the National Board of Examinations in Medical Sciences (NBEMS) a two-week time to respond to a series of petitions filed by candidates. Notably, the top court has postponed the hearing multiple times.
The crisis demands decisive action from the ministry to ensure the academic session begins without further delay, it said.
“Further inaction risks widespread demoralisation among medical professionals and continued compromise of patient care standards across the nation. We hope to receive your valued response at your earliest convenience regarding possible action steps address this criticism," the letter read.
