How will NTA hold NEET re-exam 2024? No new registration, admit card, counselling dates

NEW DELHI: Amid the continuing NEET controversy, the National Testing Agency (NTA) will be administering the National Eligibility-cum-Entrance Test - Undergraduate (NEET UG 2024) re-exam on June 23. The decision to conduct NEET retest 2024 for 1,563 students, who were granted grace marks, was taken as per the Supreme Court order and recommendation made by a high-powered committee.

Union education minister Dharmendra Pradhan, who earlier denied allegations of NEET paper leak and corruption, today said that two types of irregularities have come to limelight. One, the awarding of NEET grace marks for students to compensate for time loss during the exam. Second, malpractices in two locations have been reported. Further, he said that strict action will be taken against the person who is found guilty.

On the other hand, the Bihar police department's Economic Offences Unit (EOU) which is investigating the NEET paper leak 2024 recently released a confession report that highlighted the involvement of 'solver gang' in rigging the MBBS entrance exam.

The NEET controversy persists as a large section of students, parents and subject experts continue to call for protests and demand for scrapping NEET . The NTA, on the other hand, said it will follow the recommendations made by the Supreme Court and high-powered committee. As per the suggestion, the testing agency issued a notification on June 13 announcing to conduct re-examination for the affected students.

How will NEET retest be conducted

The NTA will follow the same exam pattern and timings for the NEET re-exam 2024 as well. Here are some of the important dates and points to remember.

• NTA will be holding the NEET re-exam 2024 on June 23 for 1,563 students, who were awarded grace marks. The exam will be conducted between 2 pm to 5.20 pm.
• Students will not have to re-register again to appear in the retest, as per the Indian Express report.
• The NEET admit card 2024 for retest is expected to be issued on June 20, three days before the NEET re-exam date.
• The NEET re-test results 2024 will be declared on June 30 on the official website, exams.nta.ac.in/NEET/.
• The NEET rank and score card 2024 issued on June 4 will be considered null and void.
• NEET hall ticket 2024 will be issued to all the 1,563 candidates.
• In case, a candidate fails to appear, the original marks without adding the grace marks will be considered final.
• After the declaration of NEET re-exam results 2024, the Medical Counselling Committee (MCC) will begin the NEET UG counselling 2024 process likely on July 6.

What is NEET controversy

NTA conducted the single largest medical entrance exam, NEET UG 2024, on May 5 for more than 24 lakh students. The rumours of the NEET paper leak started circulating on social media days and weeks before the exam date. However, the testing agency dismissed the claims and announced that it will conduct the exam as per the schedule. However, the NEET UG result date 2024 coinciding with the 18th Lok Sabha election results 2024 triggered suspicion.

Later, the unprecedented number of NEET AIR Rank 1 holders raised more questions. Although the NTA clarified on the grace marks, it was not received well by students, parents and others. The number of irregularities which surfaced after the NEET result declaration has sparked controversy and disappointment on the education system.

After multiple petitions were filed in the Supreme Court and several high courts, a vacation bench heard the case and asked NTA’s response on the matter stating that the ‘sanctity of the exam has been affected’. In the next hearing, it had asked to cancel NEET results of the candidates who were awarded grace marks and conduct re-exam for such students.
