“The final decision on whether the NEET UG medical entrance exam will be conducted in online or pen and paper mode will be announced by next week,” Dharmendra Pradhan told reporters following the launch of Kashi Tamil Samagam 3.0 portal .
In the latest announcement, the National Testing Agency (NTA) mandated using Automated Permanent Academic Account Registry ( APAAR ID ) and Aadhaar verification for NEET UG 2025 examination.
Despite several allegations and irregularities, which led MBBS aspirants to approach the Supreme Court last year, the NTA has been given the responsibility again to conduct the single-largest medical entrance exam. More than 23 lakh aspirants appeared in the NEET exam last year and the police and CBI found several instances where the exam was rigged at some centres.
Changes in NEET UG 2025
Following the NEET UG paper leaks, the ministry of education had set up a high-level committee as per the direction of the Supreme Court to test the functioning of the NTA and to recommend reforms for the entrance exam.
The seven-member panel led by former Indian Space Research Organisation (ISRO) chairperson K Radhakrishnan suggested conducting the NEET 2025 exam in multiple sessions as lakhs of students sit for the exam.
The panel also recommended a computer-assisted pen-and-paper test to prevent paper leaks and mismanagement. The report stated that the NEET question paper 2025 will be shared digitally to the exam centres, where they will be printed and distributed to the students.
