To be considered qualified in NEET UG 2026, candidates must secure at least the minimum cut-off marks prescribed for their category. However, admission to government medical colleges will depend on the counselling cut-offs, which are determined by the opening and closing ranks through which seats are allotted at different colleges.

NTA will release the NEET UG 2026 qualifying cut-off along with the results, while admission cut-offs will be determined separately through the Medical Counselling Committee (MCC) All India counselling process. The closing ranks and cut-offs for medical colleges vary from one institution to another and are influenced by several factors, including the number of candidates appearing for the examination, the difficulty level of the paper, seat availability, category-wise reservations, and candidates' NEET UG 2026 scores.

Why did the NTA conduct the NEET Re-exam?

The NTA conducted the re-examination after cancelling the May 3 examination due to allegations of a question paper leak and concerns over the integrity of the examination process. Following inputs from central agencies and findings shared by law enforcement authorities, the NTA stated that the fairness and credibility of the examination had been compromised, making it necessary to cancel the test and conduct a fresh examination. The Government of India also ordered a comprehensive probe by the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) into the alleged irregularities.
