NEP 2020: Madhya Pradesh schools to have yoga in curriculum, says CM Chouhan

Madhya Pradesh chief minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan addressed the meeting of the task force constituted for NEP 2020 today.
NEW DELHI: Yoga will be a part of school curriculum in Madhya Pradesh schools and will be developed as a sport, state’s chief minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan announced today. Chouhan was addressing a meeting today of the task force constituted for the National Education Policy 2020.

“Addressing the meeting of the Task Force constituted for National Education Policy 2020 in Mantralaya, Chief Minister Shri ChouhanShivraj said that Yoga will be developed as a sport and included in the curriculum of school education. Yoga Commission will be constituted for extension of Yoga to the people in the State,” Chief Minister’s office said in a tweet.

“Chief Minister Chouhan said that adding yoga education at the school level would help in making education interesting and promoting health of the students,” it added.
During the meeting over the new education policy, several new initiatives for improving school education were introduced by the government.

The key aspects of the meeting are:
- Under NEP 2020, implementation of effective methods to provide vocational education along with moral education will be ensured.
- “School chale hum” campaign will be launched for Classes 5,6 and 7,8.
- Teacher training, use of IT in school education, implementation of tri-language scheme for children and special arrangement for education of children from migrant families is important.
- Development of school textbooks according to global scenarios and local circumstances.
- Implementation of activity-based learning process by mapping local requirements and art institutions.
- Departments of school education and women-child development should work in mutual coordination for preliminary childhood, care, and education.

Meanwhile, the collector of Indore said that all schools which are running with more than 50% attendance will be closed and sealed immediately.
“Instructed all the SDMs to conduct a surprise inspection of the schools and the schools in which more than 50 percent students are being taught, they should be sealed and closed immediately - Collector Manish Singh,” the school education department said in a tweet.
