NIRF Ranking 2024 Agriculture: IARI New Delhi in top spot again
NIRF Agriculture Ranking 2024: IARI New Delhi is also known as Pusa Institute. This ranking was introduced last year.

NEW DELHI: Indian Agriculture Research Institute (IARI) New Delhi has once again topped the National Institutional Ranking Framework (NIRF) rankings 2024 for agriculture. The “agriculture and allied sectors” category was added in NIRF ranking last year. National Dairy Research Institute (NDRI) Karnal and Punjab Agricultural University (PAU), Ludhiana have once again claimed second and third positions, respectively, in India rankings 2024 in agriculture and allied category.

Indian Agricultural Research Institute (IARI) New Delhi, popularly known as Pusa Institute, offers more than 800 programmes in 27 disciplines. IARI launched its BSc Agriculture programme in the 2022-23 academic year and it is developing diploma, online agriculture courses . NDRI Karnal, PAU, Ludhiana and Banaras Hindu University (BHU), Varanasi have also maintained their last year’s NIRF positions.
However, Indian Veterinary Research Institute, Izatnagar has replaced Tamil Nadu Agricultural University, Coimbatore from fifth position in NIRF ranking 2024 for agriculture and allied sectors category.

NIRF Ranking 2024: Categories and parameters of ranking
NIRF was launched in 2015 by the ministry of education to rank Indian universities and colleges based on objective criteria to promote competitive excellence. NIRF had in November 2022 announced the new category, agriculture and allied Sectors .
This year, three new categories have been included – state government-run institutions, open universities and skill universities. The ministry of education is also helping the institutions of the neighbouring countries to participate in the NIRF rankings, said Sanjay K Murthy, secretary, department of higher education, ministry of education. A total of 10,885 institutions across India applied for the National Institutional Ranking Framework (NIRF) rankings 2024 this year.
While addressing the NIRF 2024 award ceremony, National Educational Technology Forum (NETF) chairman Anil Sahasrabuddhe said that officials are planning to introduce sustainability rankings from the next year. A preference is being given to zero carbon footprint, in which, the Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) Madras, has taken a lead, he said.
Besides introducing three new categories in the NIRF rankings, the education ministry has also made changes to the parameters used for determining the ranks of the institutes. The new parameters include sustainable development goals and indicators of National Education Policy (NEP) which includes Indian Knowledge System, adoption of regional languages and multiple entry and exit points
For the sixth time, Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) Madras has bagged the top position in the overall category of NIRF 2024 India rankings . IIT Madras has remained in the top rank among engineering colleges since the inception of the ranking system. All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS) Delhi has once again emerged as the top medical college in the country. Meanwhile, Jamia Hamdard has knocked NIPER Hyderabad out of top spot in pharmacy category of NIRF ranking 2024 . IISc Bangalore has retained top spot in ‘university’ category .
