NEW DELHI: The National Medical Commission under the ministry of health and family welfare has accepted the Jawaharlal Nehru Medical College (JNMC), Aligarh Muslim University’s (AMU) request to increase the MBBS seats from 150 to 200.
The increase in the MBBS seats will be implemented in AMU from next year after an inspection survey by the NMC official.
To meet the rise in student intake, AMU Vice-Chancellor, Professor Tariq Mansoor said that the university has scaled up infrastructure and faculty.
According to reports, AMU Vice-Chancellor said, “Now, stating that the Covid pandemic has re-affirmed the importance of an adequate number of qualified and skilled human resources in health, it is imperative that the number of MBBS seats increase in JNMC and medical colleges across the country.”

Meanwhile, UP Nurses & Midwives Council in accordance with the notification of the Indian Nursing Council permitted up-gradation of ??? ?????? conducted by JNMC to a BSc Nursing degree with intake of20 students.
Prof Tariq Mansoor said, “Starting “employment generation” courses has been the focus of Aligarh Muslim University- College of Nursing, Paramedical College and Institute of Pharmacy. This will further boost our capacity of health infrastructure and skilled health personnel in times to come.”
