NMC said in “Establishment of medical institutions, assessment and rating regulations, 2023,” that MARB may appoint an agency for assessment of colleges.

NEW DELHI: The Medical Assessment and Rating Board (MARB) has signed an agreement with the Quality Council of India (QCI) for assessment of medical colleges. The agreement was signed in the board’s conference room in New Delhi. It was signed by MARB president BN Gangadhar and QCI CEO Varinder Kanwar.
MARB of the National Medical Commission (NMC) is responsible for carrying out inspections for granting permission for establishment of new medical colleges; increase of MBBS, PG, super-speciality seats; and renewal of permission for existing medical colleges.

"QCI provides a mechanism for independent third-party assessment of products, services and it aims to promote quality through national accreditation of testing, inspection and certification bodies which are internationally recognized," said an official statement.
Under Graduate Medical Education Brand (UGMEB) president Aruna Vanikar, PGMEB president Vijay Ojha, UGMEB member Vijayendra Kumar, EMRB member Yogender Malik, MARB member JL Meena were present during the signing of the agreement.

Recently, NMC framed “Establishment of medical institutions, assessment and rating regulations, 2023,” wherein it said that the MARB may appoint one or more independent third-party agencies to conduct assessment and rating of medical colleges on its behalf.
NMC will make the assessment reports public. “The MARB shall make available on its website or otherwise in the public domain the latest annual assessment results and ratings of medical colleges or medical institutions, in such a manner as to facilitate public understanding and consumption,” the regulations read.
