NMIMS Hyderabad BTech 1st year students create drone-based emergency lighting system

NEW DELHI: The Narsee Monjee Institute of Management Studies (NMIMS) Hyderabad’s 1st year BTech computer science and engineering (CSE) students from the School of Technology Management and Engineering, have jointly developed a connected drone-based emergency lighting system and presented a research paper on the same at the IBSSC 2023 conference in Mumbai.

S Pavithra and Trisha Reddy presented their research paper titled "A Technological-Based Lighting System for Easy Life".

The research paper presented by these students talks about utilizing clusters of drones equipped with intelligent lighting modules to illuminate dark areas during power outages or emergencies. Additionally, the drones can transmit real-time video to nearby police stations. The system also has applications for merging surveillance cameras with intelligent lighting to create a virtual security network which can be helpful for public safety.

The first-year Btech students gathered data from various reliable sources for their research paper. The research project took three months to complete.

Pavithra and Trisha expressed their gratitude to Siddhartha Ghosh, their mentor, for his guidance and emphasis on self-learning. They were the youngest participants at the IBSSC conference and received accolades from many scientists and professors.

Siddhartha Ghosh, director of NMIMS congratulated the students and said, "We, as academics, firmly believe in the criticality of prioritizing academic research due to its ability to facilitate direct student engagement and nurture intellectual growth. In my view, the universe - where learning is happening across physical and virtual worlds, is the new school.”
