NEW DELHI: The West Bengal Board of Secondary Education has informed the Bengal school education department that it is not possible to conduct the WB Madhyamik exam 2021 from June 1 due to COVID-19, according to the Times of India report. The decision on the postponement or cancellation of the West Bengal Madhyamik and HS exam 2021 will be made by the state government.

"If the examinations are to be postponed or cancelled, is a call which needs to be taken by the state government," the Times of India quoted Kalyanmoy Ganguly, president of the West Bengal Board of Secondary Education.

West Bengal Madhyamik 2021 update

For now, West Bengal Board Madhyamik exam 2021 are scheduled to begin from June 1, 2021, whereas WB HS exams are scheduled between June 15 and July 2, 2021. However, students demand cancellation or postponement of the West Bengal Board exam 2021 due to the surge in COVID-19-positive cases. The board has sought the response of the government on the postponement of the examinations.

Students took to Twitter and urged the chief minister of the state to cancel or postpone the WB board exam 2021. Check a student’s tweet below.

The report says that the board officials had an initial discussion with the school education department. In the meeting, the officials agreed that it will be a problem for students, teachers and other officials to appear for exams as the local train services have been suspended and the state buses and metro services are running at 50% capacity.

The report further stated that it is largely expected that the restrictions in the state will remain till May 31. After that, it is not easy to conduct exams in time even if COVID-19 situation improves.

Earlier, the board cancelled the Class 11 exams and changed the timing of the Class 12 exams.
