Over 4,500 PwD candidates recruited in central government services from 2018 to 2021

According to 'Right of persons with disabilities act, 2016, 4% of total vacancies are to be filled up via direct recruitment in group A, B and C posts.

NEW DELHI: The union minister for personnel, public grievances and pensions, Jitendra Singh informs that a total of 4,798 persons with benchmark disabilities (PwD) candidates have been directly recruited in posts and services in the central government.

In a written reply to a question in Lok Sabha, he further added that the government has taken several measures to create public awareness and assist PwD candidates in applying for relevant posts. He also informs that the facility of scribes for written and computer based examinations were provided to candidates with disabilities in the category of blindness, locomotor disability (both arms affected) and cerebral palsy if desired by the candidates on production of certificate from authorities at the time of examination.

In addition to this, a compensatory time of 20 minutes was also provided to such candidates. The minister further added that in order to create accessible workplaces for PwD candidates, instructions provided in 'Harmonised guidelines and standards for universal accessibility in India 2021', 'Handbook on barrier free and accessibility' and other manuals issued by ministry of housing and urban affairs and central public works department are followed.

In accordance of 'right of persons with disabilities act, 2016', four percent of the total number of vacancies available are to be filled up via direct recruitment in each group A, B and C posts.
