Parliamentary Official Language Committee reviews use of Hindi in IIM Jammu

The first sub-committee meeting of the Parliamentary Official Language Committee was organised by Border Security Force.

NEW DELHI: The Border Security Force (BSF) organised the first sub-committee meeting of the Parliamentary Official Language Committee on September 25. The committee reviewed the works of official language i.e. Hindi in various institutions, including the Indian Institute of Management (IIM) Jammu.

IIM Jammu director BS Sahay, assistant professor Muqbil Burhan, and official language in-charge Anuja Akhouri, and assistant Administrative officer Abhay Kumar Awasthi were present on the occasion. Information about all the works related to the official language in the last year was presented before the Parliamentary Committee by the IIM Jammu director.

BS Sahay greeted all the members of the official language committee with uniforms and presented the institute's annual magazine ‘Trikuta’. The Parliamentary committee expressed satisfaction over the implementation of the official language at the institute. IIM Jammu is ranked 41st in the National Institutional Ranking Framework (NIRF) 2023 in management category. It was ranked 36th in NIRF 2022.

The Parliamentary Committee of Official Language was set up in 1976 under Section 4 of The Official Languages Act, 1963. The Committee is chaired by the union home minister, and has 20 members from Lok Sabha and 10 from Rajya Sabha.

The committee reviews the progress made in the use of Hindi for official purposes, and makes recommendations to increase the use of Hindi in official communications. It submits its report to the President, who then causes the report to be laid before each House of the Parliament and sends it to all the state governments.
