PGI-D 2019-20: 3 districts score above 80%; none in highest grade in school education performance
Sikar, Jhunjhunu, and Jaipur districts from Rajasthan got “Utkarsh” grade in school education performance. Districts were graded on 6 categories.

NEW DELHI: At least 3 districts from Rajasthan have scored more than 80% in school education performance and achieved ‘Utkarsh’ grade which is the second highest grade, according to the Performance Grading Index for Districts (PGI-D) 2019-20 report. The Department of School Education and Literacy (DoSE&L), Ministry of Education today released PGI-D for 2018-19 and 2019-20 which assesses the performance of the school education system at the District level by creating an index for comprehensive analysis.
“None of the districts attained highest grade Daksh in both 2019-20 and 2018-19 implying that there is ample scope for the districts to further improve their performance in future years,” the PGI-D report said.

While 3 districts, Sikar, Jhunjhunu and Jaipur from Rajasthan achieved the second grade, the number of districts in the third Atti-Uttam grade rose from 49 to 86 during 2018-29 and 2019-20, as per the PGI-D report.
Overall 8 districts have improved their PGI score by more than 20% or jumped two grades up in 2019-20 as compared to 2018-19. Similarly, 14 districts improved their PGI score by over 10% resulting in grade level improvement in 2019-20. Another 423 districts made less than 10% improvement in PGI scores but remained in the same grade in 2019-20, the report added.
Category-wise performance
In PGI-D, the districts are analyzed under 6 categories carrying a total of 600 points – Outcomes, Effective Classroom Transaction, Infrastructure Facilities and Student’s Entitlements, School Safety and Child Protection, Digital Learning and Governance Process.
In the Outcome category, only one district scored over 20% while 8 districts improved their score by over 10%. One district attained “Utkarsh” grade.
In the second category, overall 510 districts made improvement of which 18 districts made more than 20% improvement in scores and 29 districts improved their score by over 10% resulting in grade level progress in 2019-20 as compared to 2018-19.

Overall 478 districts improved their scores in infrastructure facilities and student’s entitlements during 2019-20 as compared to 2018-19. Out of total, 37 districts made over 20% improvement in score and 115 districts made over 10% improving their grades.
50 districts improved scores by 20% in school safety and child protection in 2019-20 as compared to 2018-19. 75 districts made more than 10% improvement in score resulting in grade level improvement.
Under the digital learning category, 20 districts have shown over 20% score improvement and 43 districts shown over 10% during 2019-20.
In the last category, 43 districts made over 20% improvements in score and another 60 districts improved their category score by over 10% jumping grades.
