Pondicherry, DDE held international conference on technology-enabled online, distance learning

The conference was organised with aim to provide a forum for discussions on strategies adopted for learning and foster skills, knowledge in students.

NEW DELHI: The Directorate of Distance Education (DDE) in collaboration with the department of computer science at Pondicherry University conducted an “international conference on technology-enabled online and distance learning: In the context of NEP 2020 (ICTOODLE-2022)” on October 27 and 28, 2022.

The conference was held at the convention-cum-cultural centre at Pondicherry University. The event was organised to provide a forum for discussions on strategies adopted for learning, engaging in a student centered learning, streamlining the work structure and providing a productive virtual learning environment for students.

Keeping in line with the National education policy (NEP) 2020, the scope of conference was anchored to recognise and absorb the information and communications technology (ICT) tools for effective content delivery and assessment in education. The theme of the gathering was to foster skills and knowledge in learners.

The conference received papers from academicians, professors, other faculty members from the universities, colleges and research scholars, from which around 40 research papers and two industries were presented from across the Globe. The event also had three tracks to discuss major topics like technology-enabled online and distance education, ICT and pedagogy and online and distance education.

Seven keynote speakers of the conference were from India and United Kingdom. The chief guest of the gathering was vice-chancellor of Pondicherry University, Gurmeet Singh. The vice-chancellor of University of Madras was the chief guest for the valedictory function and also delivered the valedictory address.

National Institute of Technology, Karaikal, director, K Sankaranarayanasamy, appreciated the apt time of the conference amidst the changing scenario in education and it’s potential to blend with the NEP objectives. He also mentioned how technology assisted online and distance education is needed in the post pandemic education system, and how this conference will facilitate new innovations and noble ideas to steer the education sector to new heights.
