Pralhad Joshi to represent India at 13th BRICS education ministers' meeting in Bhubaneswar

The ministry of education will host the 13th Brazil, Russia, India, China, and South Africa (BRICS) education ministers' meeting and the 3rd BRICS senior officials' meeting from August 5 to August 7, 2026, in Bhubaneswar, Odisha, as part of India's BRICS chairship for the year.

The meetings will bring together education ministers, senior officials and delegates from BRICS member countries to advance cooperation across five priority areas: strengthening early childhood care and education (ECCE); enhancing skill development under the BRICS TVET Cooperation Alliance (TCA); promoting collaborative research, innovation and start-ups; strengthening mutual recognition of qualifications (MRQ); and capacity building for academic leadership.

India's chairship is guided by the theme "building for resilience, innovation, cooperation and sustainability", reflecting the people-centric approach outlined by Prime Minister (PM) Narendra Modi at the 2025 BRICS summit in Rio de Janeiro.

Countdown begins

The upcoming ministerial builds on a series of engagements held throughout the year. The 1st and 2nd senior officials' meetings took place on April 7 and April 28, 2026, followed by the BRICS network university conference and international governing board meeting on July 20 to July 21.

The BRICS TVET symposium and the joint management committee meeting of the TVET cooperation alliance were held in New Delhi on August 3 to August 4, led by the ministry of skill development and entrepreneurship, focusing on workforce preparedness and best-practice exchange.

Alongside these government-level talks, India's chairship is emphasising youth engagement. Model BRICS, a student-focused initiative planned on the sidelines of BRICS ministerial meetings across India, aims to familiarise young citizens with BRICS processes and build their understanding of diplomacy, multilateral cooperation and consensus-building.
