Prayagraj schools closed today for classes pre-primary to 8 amid heavy rain, waterlogging

The District Basic Education Officer (BSA), Prayagraj, has announced the school holiday today from pre-primary to Class 8, citing continuous rainfall and waterlogging. The order was issued in compliance with directions given by the District Magistrate, Prayagraj. It comes in line with a red alert issued by the Meteorological Department.

As per the official order issued by the Office of the District Basic Education Officer, Prayagraj, the holiday applies to all aided institutions, recognised schools, CBSE, ICSE, and other boards in the district.

The decision has been taken, keeping the safety of children in mind amid continuous rainfall and water accumulation in several areas. The schools will reopen on September 28; however, if the rain continues, the local authorities may declare holiday or online classes. Therefore, parents and students in Prayagraj are advised to remain in contact with their respective schools for further updates regarding the reopening of classes.

Rainfall over next two days

Uttar Pradesh is likely to witness an increase in rainfall activity over the next two days, and the state government has put the district administrations on alert in view of the forecast of heavy rain, thunderstorms and lightning till September 27.

The weather system caused after a deep depression over the Bay of Bengal crossed the north Andhra Pradesh-south Odisha coast and moved northwest is likely to maintain its intensity for the next 12 hours, PTI reports.

The weather department has also warned of flash floods and waterlogging in some areas of the state. Strong surface winds are also likely to accompany the rain, with speeds of 30-40 kmph and gusts reaching around 50 kmph, while gusty winds of 40-50 kmph, occasionally reaching 60 kmph, are possible at isolated places.

PTI further reports that the administration has been asked to maintain heightened vigil in districts under red and orange alerts, particularly in areas vulnerable to waterlogging and flooding, including Azamgarh, Ballia, Ghazipur, Mau, Maharajganj, Kushinagar, Deoria, Gorakhpur, Sant Kabir Nagar, Siddharthnagar, Basti, Balrampur, Ambedkar Nagar, Pratapgarh, Sultanpur, Ayodhya, Gonda, Shravasti, Sitapur, Lakhimpur Kheri, Bahraich, Hardoi, Lucknow, Unnao, Rae Bareli, Barabanki, Amethi, Fatehpur, Kanpur Nagar, Banda, Kaushambi and Chitrakoot.
