NEW DELHI: Sambalpur University requests its alumni network for Rs 1 crore fund due to fund shortage. The university is planning for infrastructure up-gradation in its premier colleges in Odisha, reported the Indian Express.

Sambalpur University wants to construct a new administrative and academic building close to the Lajpat Rai Law College in Sambalpur. The project will require Rs 2.6 crore funding.

"Alumni should think of their alma mater and join its ongoing journey. I appeal to the alumni of Sambalpur University to contribute to its development," vice-chancellor Sanjiv Mittal reportedly said.

The university officials told the Indian Express that the donations from the alumni network will be considered by the government while providing grants under the Mo College scheme. Under the scheme, the government is supposed to give twice the contribution made by the alumni of universities and colleges.

The Odisha government has recently introduced district college development facilitation centres (DCDFCs) to develop higher education institutions, according to a report by the Times of India. The district collectors are vested with the responsibility to start the centres for solving the challenges faced by colleges.
