‘Full Transparency Required’: CJP asks Centre to probe ‘PG mafia’ nexus; AIIMS Delhi reports 7 deaths

The Cockroach Janta Party (CJP) has urged the central government to initiate an independent criminal investigation into the building owner of the boys PG accommodation, which took the lives of 7 Delhi University students on Sunday after its sudden collapse. The CJP has listed seven demands following the Satya Niketan incident.

Meanwhile, the All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS), New Delhi, has published an updated list today, detailing the status of the patients from the Satya Niketan building collapse in south Delhi.

According to the AIIMS report, 6 persons were brought dead to the hospital from the incident site, whereas three are still critical. One person is stable, while the other is marked stable - discharged. The AIIMS list contains the status of 12 individuals, of which seven are dead.

'Do engineering-grade structural audit of school, college buildings'

Just a day after the building collapse incident at Satya Niketan, the CJP has placed its demand before the government , urging to curb the nexus between the owner, politicians, and other persons. The larger PG Mafia needs to be investigated, the political party said in an official statement.

“The government to immediately begin a engineering-grade structural audit of buildings, especially schools, colleges and students accommodation within a time-bound manner, rehabilitate students, and enforce norms by sealing illegal constructions and penalising the owners,” it said.

Pointing to the Hauz Rani incident of June 3, it urged the government to publish all its records, including its enforcement reports, Satya Niketan surveys within 48 hours.

The social-media campaign-turned-political party has asked the government to reveal the names, designations of their members, submit every day or weekly report.

'If Satya Niketan was surveyed, what was found?'

The report should contain the number of buildings inspected district-wise, number found illegal, unsafe, number issued notices, number sealed, demolished, number where prosecution was initiated, it said.

It has also questioned whether Satya Niketan was surveyed, if yes, what was found, if no, why a major DU student-PG hub was excluded.

“These committees were to identify, audit, enforce, seal. They have become defunct within 3 months. Full transparency required,” the statement read.

The government should construct hostels for DU and other students and also stated that the entire Delhi University can accommodate only around 7,000 students.

It has also appealed to the government for a compensation of Rs 1 crore for families of the dead and Rs 20 lakh for the injured. It has also questioned Delhi education minister Ashish Sood, that why there were 13 district committees’ work wound down under him?
