Engineers' body announces scholarships for BTech students

The Institution of Engineering Technology has thrown open the registration for the India scholarship award. The last date for application is August 15.
NEW DELHI: The Institution of Engineering and Technology (IET) has opened registrations for the fifth edition of India scholarship award. The award comes, with a combined prize of Rs 5 lakh, a statement from the IET said.
The IET India Scholarship programme aims to reward and celebrate individual excellence and innovation among undergraduate engineering students in India.
This year IET India Scholarship Award is being relaunched in a digital format to coincide with the IET’s 150th anniversary.
BTech, BE students
The scholarships are open to all first, second, third, and fourth year undergraduate engineering students pursuing engineering.
The registration is open to students of all AICTE( All India Council for Technical Education) UGC (University Grants Commission) approved and national institutes.
“The past year has been tough and the scholarship had to metamorphose into a format that reflects realities of today and has gone fully digital. We are hoping that this would encourage even more students to apply and prove their mettle. I wish all the very best to all applicants and look forward to meeting them at various rounds”, said Abhijit Chakrabarti, chair, The IET.
“India fulfils a significant portion of the global engineering and technology workforce demands and this is only set to grow in the coming years. It is therefore imperative to recognise the potential of young Indian engineers and to give them a platform to showcase and enhance their skills. We are thrilled to bring back the IET India Scholarship Awards this year and can’t wait to discover the next generation of engineering leaders that will help us solve some of the world’s biggest challenges”, said Toni Allen, director of international, strategic marketing and engagement, The IET.
Evaluation pattern
The award evaluates participants across parameters including academic performance, extracurricular activities, range of outreach activities and their ability to come up with engineering solutions to solve problems impacting society.
In the first level, students are shortlisted based on their academic performance as well as extracurricular activities, the statement said.
Winners of the region round finally battle it out in the national finals.
A total of 1,100 participants have registered. The registration will close on August 15, 2021.
