Six IIT Bombay faculty members elected as fellows of Indian National Science Academy

Six faculty members from the Indian Institute of Bombay (IIT Bombay) have been elected as fellows of the Indian National Science Academy (INSA). The recognition was based on the contributions of the IIT Bombay professors into advancing science and engineering research and addressing challenges of national and global significance.

The recognition will be effective from January 1, 2027 and the faculty members research covers Biosciences, Computer Science, Climate Studies, Chemistry, Environmental Engineering and Earth Sciences.

The IIT Bombay professors elected for the INSA, are Anirban Banerjee, from the department of biosciences and bioengineering, Supratik Chakraborty, computer science and engineering department, Subimal Ghosh is from department of civil engineering and centre for climate studies, Debabrata Maiti, from department of Chemistry and centre for climate studies, Suparna Mukherji from environmental science and engineering department and Malay Mukul, department of Earth Sciences.

“IIT Bombay is proud to announce that six of the institute's faculty members have been elected as Fellows of the Indian National Science Academy (INSA) effective from January 1, 2027; a remarkable recognition of the institute’s sustained contributions to advancing science & engineering research and addressing challenges of national and global significance,” the institute said in an official statement.

In June this year, an IIT Bombay alumnus Shashi Shekhar Vempati was conferred the Padma Shri award by the President of India for contributions to public service, media transformation, and institution-building.
